I woke up after an absolutely horrible sleep. Actually I didn't really sleep from 2 am onward. I eventually sort of gave up and listened to my iPod which now has a bad left earbud. I kept feeling what felt like mosquitos or maybe some other bug landing on me. I'd swat and there was always some grain of sand--Banjul is sandy. I was sweaty and sticky and the ceiling fan wasn't working for me.
I got up at about 9. I went to go to the bathroom and the bathroom was just disgusting. So I decided I would give up on the Ferry Guesthouse and walk over to the Carlton Hotel. So I packed, checked out, and headed over. The Carlton Hotel has air-conditioned rooms for D600. 50% more than the Ferry Guesthouse, but there is AC, private bath, and nicer beds. It's just a nicer place and worth the extra D200.
Immediately after checking in, I took a long shower. The Carlton is still lacking in consistent hot water and plastic toilet seats. But they had nice towels and they provide soap. And I'm almost out of soap. So I had a wonderful, refreshing shower. Then I went out for lunch. I had a falafel shawarma at King of Shwarma. I returned and took advantage of the better facilities to catch up on my laundry. Finally, it was time for a long nap in perfect air conditioning. The most divine and comfortable sleep I've had in ages.
