Sierra Leone Visa Not Ready

I was planning to leave for Sierra Leone on Tuesday, but it looks like my visa won't be ready until 10am Tuesday morning. The officer said I could swing by at 10 and then head to the gare voiture. But I think I'll just delay my trip a day to make sure I arrive in Freetown with as much daylight as possible.

It won't be so bad because I moved from the Hotel Niger which has a wonderful location but no running water, a rather uncomfortable bed, and a broken fan. I upgraded to the Hotel du Golfe. The upgrade sent my daily bill up from GF100000 (US$20) to GF170000 (US$34). But that extra $14 buys me--mercy me--a hot water shower! Delightful! I took my first hot shower in weeks. Ah, so nice. And I needed it because I never could really get clean with the bucket water at the Niger. There is also a TV which apparently has CNN. The only drawback is that they don't electricity until 5:30. Then I'll have a new looking air conditioner as well. They also gave me soap, a roll of toilet paper, and a towel. I'm not close to downtown, but I am much closer to the gare voitures.

The trip here was a bit hard. I had my backpack and laptop and when I got on the bus it wasn't crowded, but it filled up good and tight--like a sardine can. It took a little doing to get off. But the price is right from almost in front of the Niger to pretty close to the Golfe--only GF1500 or US$0.30.

It took a little doing to find the Golfe. It's a bit of a walk from the Rue du Donka. The Family Choice market is across the street from the side street you have to take. It goes by some university campus and the Auberge du Miniére. You go about 4 or blocks and eventually you'll see it on the right.
